Mill, Inc.
TMI
Forest Products, Inc., formerly Tubafor Mill,
Inc., was founded over 60 years ago in Morton
Washington as a railroad tie mill. In those
days Morton was known as the “Tie Capital
of the World”. In later years the company
began producing 2x4 studs for the building
industry. This is how the company acquired
the unique “Tubafor” name.
In the late 1960’s, Tubafor Mill began
manufacturing Western Red Cedar fencing material,
mostly posts and rails. At that time, just
the downfall material was used to produce fence
boards. By the mid 1970’s they moved towards
producing Western Red Cedar fence boards exclusively,
eventually curtailing post and rail production
entirely. The Probyn Group, a young aggressive
group of Canadian log and lumber entrepreneurs,
purchased the Morton sawmill in 1978. TMI Forest
Products has since grown into the largest manufacturing
company within The Probyn Group.
In
the 1980’s, Tubafor Mill designed
and built an additional production facility
located in the Olympic Peninsula community
of Amanda Park Washington. The “Crane
Creek” facility produces a pre-finished
fence board marketed under the brand name of “RightWood”.
For
the past 15 years the company has experienced
numerous multi-million dollar renovations to
develop the original sawmill into the state
of the art Western Red Cedar fencing facility
that exists today. Tubafor Mill, Inc., presently
known as TMI Forest Products, Inc., is considered
the largest Western Red Cedar fence board manufacturer
in the world.
